Most of the time we blame hackers, but at times they’re great, because they help identifying those security holes that are left even after stringent testing. With this true intention, the iPhone, Safari and IE8 were all nailed with security holes during the Pwn2Own hacking contest.

The iPhone gave up its SMS database as the hackers created a special website that, when visited on the Apple smartphone, automatically pulled out its SMS database.

Yahoo has launched two new apps for the iPhone this week. The first app is for for finding restaurants. You draw a circle on the map and find all eateries in the area. Sounds a good one to have for food lovers!

The other app uses voice commands to conduct searches. So you can now do voice search on Yahoo using iPhone. Interesting!

A latest report from AdMob shows that the iPhone and Android are dominating the mobile web. According to the report, the iPhone now serves 50% of all requests to the mobile web.

This domination will hopefully last throughout the year 2010, as Apple is to launch iPhone 4G in the earliest summer which will strengthen Apple’s share more in the mobile web.

Apple has recently released iTunes 9.1. The release note attached brings up many new features including syncing with iPad and preventing tethered jailbroken iPhones from syncing.

iTunes 9.1 is available via Apple Software update and is 97.3 MB in size.

A version of Opera Mini designed for the iPhone was showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2010, TechTree March 19, 2010. Announced about more than a month back, Opera didn’t mention the exact date of browsers availability on App store. Opera will again display the browser at the CTIA Wireless scheduled to commence on March 23, 2010.

At the MWC, Opera didn’t let people to photograph and capture videos of the browser working on the iPhone, but at the CTIA it’ll be displayed to world.

It’ll be good to see the smarter mobile web browser now on iPhone, but one thing it must have to undergo is strict approval policy of Apple. Opera Software seems to submit the browser to Apple sooner, but how sooner it will be is still unknown!
